Rock Island County Jail to Accept Scott County Inmates

Scott County Jail

With the Scott County jail struggling to find room for all of its inmates, Rock Island County has agreed to help. An agreement made this month will allow the Scott County jail to transfer inmates across the river, and across state lines, once it's close to full capacity.

Scott County Sheriff Dennis Conard, says both jails had a similar agreement in the late 1990s. But, it hasn't been needed since Scott County built its new jail in 2008.
Conard says the Scott County jail has room for about 360 prisoners, and on an average day holds 315. It becomes necessary to transfer inmates once the jail reaches 90 percent capacity.

He says transferring inmates to Rock Island saves on transportation and time.

Sheriff Conard says the agreement between Scott County jail and Rock Island County jail will remain in effect as long as its needed.
