Rock Island County Prescription Drug Take Back Day

Drug Enforcement Agency

Don't forget to empty out your medicine cabinet during this year's spring cleaning. Saturday, April 30th, is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, and local residents can drop off expired or unwanted pills at the Rock Island County Justice Center.

Captain Darren Hart, with the Rock Island County Sheriff's department, says it's a rare opportunity to safely dispose of prescription drugs.
He says keeping unused pills in the house is especially dangerous for children, and throwing out or flushing drugs can be harmful to the water supply or environment.

Hart says each year, the Rock Island County Justice Center collects about 200 pounds of prescription drugs. They accept pills, tablets, patches, and small bottles of sealed liquid medicine.

From 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday, people can drop off prescription drugs at the Rock Island County Justice Center, Milan Police Department, or Silvis Police Department.
