On Saturday, the Davenport Catholic Diocese will celebrate its Pacem In Terris Peace And Freedom Award and its most recent recipient, Vietnamese Buddhist monk and peace activist ThichNhatHanh.
Sam Dunklau reports the celebration will honor the famous monk and his achievements as a peace activist.
Summary
Hanh is known for his work with Vietnamese War refugees and as the father of the Mindfulness movement in Western culture. He's written more than one hundred books and is an internationally-known speaker.
Now 89, Hanh suffered a stroke in 2014 and could not receive the award in person.
The annual award began in 1964 and honors a person's achievements in peace and justice. Past recipients have included John F. Kennedy, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Mother Teresa.
