While the City of Davenport tries to balance next year's budget, the mayor is asking for each department to be cut by two percent. Mayor Frank Klipsch says that includes reductions to fire and police.
To balance its budget, Davenport has to cut $900,000 next year. In the Fire Department, Chief Lynn Washburn says that means losing three positions.
Klipsch says he doesn't want to "micro-manage" and has required each department to come up with its own plan to save money.
Police Chief Paul Sikorski says his department could also cut three jobs.
Originally, the Police Department planned to cut its "juvenile liaison" position. But the job was saved thanks to a grant from the Bechtel Trusts. And Sikorski says a new youth intervention program should expand this year.
