Davenport Police Hope Youth Engagement Will Reduce Crime

WVIK Staff
Sikorski and Klipsch

Davenport is reaching out to kids and teens in an effort to reduce and prevent crime in the city. This morning, Mayor Frank Klipsch and Police Chief Paul Sikorski talked about a new program for juveniles, that focuses on crime intervention and community engagement.

Sikorski says the police department has received a grant from the Bechtel Trusts, to hire someone as a "juvenile liason."
Sikorski wants his department to collaborate with United Neighbors, Family Resources, Friendly House, and other agencies. He hopes every officer will have contact information ready for young people who need support.

Mayor Klipsch says plans to engage youth and offer intervention programs are "long-term solutions" to preventing crime.

He applauds Sikorski for trying to find the "root cause" of crimes.

Sikorski says the Davenport Police Department started the "juvenile diversion" program last month.
