Sunday is Deadline to get Health Insurance on Marketplace

The Project of the Quad Cities

It's the last chance to sign up for coverage through the health insurance Marketplace. Sunday is the deadline to receive insurance under the Affordable Care Act, and the Project of the Quad Cities is offering in-person counseling.

Spokeswoman Lisa Rios says many people new to the Marketplace are not "health insurance literate." And others need help finding the right plan.
The Project has helped about 500 people sign up for health insurance so far this year.

Rios says if a person does not sign up by Sunday, they will have to wait until next year to enroll for coverage on the Marketplace. The only exception is if there's a "life changing event," such as losing a job or getting married.

The penalty for not having health insurance this year is $695.

Counselors will be available at The Project on 5th Avenue in Moline, until 5 pm today, and from 8 am until 10:30 pm tomorrow and Sunday.
