The Quad Cities are 17,000 Pounds Lighter

Xstream Cleanup

119 tires, 11 televisions, 4 bicycles, lawn chairs, a mattress, and a swimming pool. That's just some of the trash removed from rivers, creeks and ponds in the Quad Cities this weekend.
On Saturday, 671 people picked up over 17,800 pounds of trash during the 12th annual Xstream Cleanup. Volunteers removed trash and invasive species at 34 locations this year, including the Nahant Marsh, Living Lands and Waters Tree Nursery, and Lincoln Park in Rock Island.
Event organizer, Brandy Welvaert, says volunteers have cleaned up 950,000 pounds of trash during the one-day event over the past 12 years.
