Guilty is the verdict for Timothy McVay, the 40 year old Rock Island man accused of killing 29 year old Carrie Olson of Davenport. This afternoon, Circuit Judge Michael Meersman announced his decision after a bench trial that began several weeks ago.
Olson was last seen in Rock Island in December 2013, and her body was found 3 months later in southern Minnesota.
Meersman took 35 minutes to go over the evidence, saying while there was very little direct evidence, there was enough circumstantial evidence to convince him that McVay's guilty.
Because her body had been outside for three months, the medical examiner could only conclude "homicide by unspecified means." But the judge was still convinced.
Judge Meersman says sentencing will be held about 2 months.
McVay now faces 20 to 60 years in prison.
