Mississippi Valley Blues Festival Canceled

Mississippi Valley Blues Society

After 30 years, a major music festival in the Quad Cities has been canceled. Today, the Mississippi Valley Blues Society announced it cannot afford to host the annual Blues Festival this year, which was set to take place Labor Day weekend.
Blues Society President, Steve Heston, says he's lost money in recent years because of flooding at LeClaire Park in Davenport, during July 4th weekend, when the festival usually takes place.
So this year, the fest was postponed to Labor Day. But, that didn't make a difference when the Blues Society struggled to find enough sponsors.
But, he hopes the Blues Festival can continue in the future, possibly as soon as next year.

He says Blues Festival has raised millions of dollars because of the tourism it brings.

Heston says the Mississippi Valley Blues Society plans to continue holding other local shows and providing educational programs in schools.
