Flowers on the River: Men Stand Against Domestic Violence

KWQC-TV

A group of men in the Quad Cities will spread awareness about domestic violence today, saying it's "not just a women's issue." Thursday evening, the Elephant Club will host "Flowers on the River," at Leach Park in Bettendorf.
Chris Spencer is a juvenile court officer, and a member of the Elephant Club, a local men's group dedicated to ending domestic violence. He says the group will read the names of local domestic violence victims, and place a flower in the river to honor each one.
This will be the fourth annual "Flowers on the River" event, and Spencer says the growing number of participants each year shows the problem is growing. He says 1 in 4 women will be affected by domestic violence in their lifetime, and the issue transcends race or social class.

Thursday at 5 pm, speakers will share stories and the Davenport Central Drama Group will perform a short skit, before the Elephant Club places flowers for domestic violence victims.
