Lykam Wins Special Election For Iowa Senate

Scott County voters went to the polls Tuesday to fill the State Senate District 45 seat left vacant by Joe Seng, who died in September.

State Representative Jim Lykam, a Democrat, won the race with more than 73 percent of the vote.

With all precincts reporting, results from the Scott County Auditor's Office show Lykam defeated Republican Michael Gonzales, who got 25 percent of the vote and Libertarian Severin Gilbert, who received just over 1 percent of the vote.

The district covers western Davenport, Buffalo, and down river to the Muscatine County line.

The Scott County Iowa Democratic Party will hold a special convention on January 5 to choose a Democratic nominee to run for the state representative seat Lykam vacated.
