Milan Woman Running for State Rep.

Brandi McGuire

A Milan woman has decided to challenge long-time state representative Pat Verschoore, who's also from Milan. Sunday, republican Brandi McGuire announced she's running for the 72nd District.

McGuire says her family's fight with the Sherrard School District over her daughter's service dog, got her interested in the state legislature. And she's working on a bill that would insure districts have to follow federal law in these situations.

If elected, she'll advocate for children with disabilities, like her daughter, but also wants to work on pension reform - starting with state legislators.

I want to remove pensions as a "cozy" benefit for lawmakers.

McGuire also says Illinois should do more to attract and retain small business.

She graduated from Sherrard High School and attended Black Hawk College. And for the past four years has worked in the family-owned business as Certified Illinois Driver Training instructor.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
