State Grants $2 Million to Western Illinois to Revamp Neighborhoods

Communities in Western Illinois, including Rock Island and Moline, will get nearly $2 million to help fix up vacant properties.

The Illinois Housing Development Authority approved $19 million for the Strong Communities Program. It hopes to invest in underserved communities with money to take on abandoned homes.

The program has awarded $30 million in grant funding. Some grants will go to Galesburg, Macomb, Moline, Monmouth, and Rock Island. Rock Island will receive $268,000, and $417,000 will go to Moline.
