Hidden Conversations

WVIK is working to deepen our communities conversation about race with a new series called Hidden Conversations. This series of online conversations that will culminate with March 11th Power of Words event featuring Michele Norris. These online conversations will be themed around Michele Norris' book The Grace of Silence, a personal memoir discussing the stories hidden within her own family that she only began to discover as an adult. Hidden Conversations will discuss issues facing the black community right here in the Quad Cities.

The first conversation will be led by Dr. LaDrina Wilson, a leadership and diversity specialist, and feature Eric Puryear, a local attorney who has represented clients in civil rights cases, police brutality, and racism, together with Thurgood Brooks, Family Advocate with the MLK Community Center in Rock Island and organizer of The Resolution. Both men will share stories of racial profiling in their own lives as well as those they have worked with. The conversation will be live, online at facebook.com/wvikfm at 6 PM on Thursday, September 10.
