The Army has named Major General Antonio Aguto to be the 40th commanding general of First Army.
During his 33 years in the Army, Aguto has served at various sites in the US, Germany, Iraq, and Afghanistan. His most recent posting was commanding general of the Third Infantry Division at Fort Stewart in Georgia.
He's also been confirmed by the US Senate for promotion to the rank of lieutenant general.
First Army is responsible for mobilizing, training, and deploying all Army National Guard and Army Reserve units across the US.
He'll replace Lieutenant General Thomas James, who's retiring after leading First Army for 2 1/2 years and a 36-year career in the Army.
A change of command ceremony will be held on Thursday, July 8, in front of First Army headquarters, on Arsenal Island.
