Moritz Retires Early

Scott County

More than a year before her current term is up, Scott County Auditor Roxanna Moritz has decided to retire. On Wednesday she announced her last day in office will be April 23rd.

Moritz blames her early retirement on the increasing demands of the job especially during last year's primary and general election. "Not only did we face the constant barrage of lies and innuendos in regards to the security and integrity of elections, but name calling and physical threats."

That was made even more difficult by the pandemic, and having to figure out how to conduct safe elections, for her staff and voters.

In her announcement, Moritz said a lack of support from the county board made her job more difficult. And it'll all be much more difficult from now on thanks to the governor and Iowa legislature that recently made extensive changes in election laws and procedures.

She's served at Scott County Auditor for 14 years.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
