Hope Creek Sale Rejected

Rock Island County

The proposed sale of the Hope Creek Care Center in East Moline has fallen through. Thursday night members of the Rock Island County board voted 15 to 8 to reject a revised offer from Aperion Care.

County Administrator Jim Snider says Aperion originally offered 6 million dollars for the nursing home, but re-assessed it due to the pandemic, and dropped the offer to 4 million.

But there is another possible offer - Infinity Health has made a verbal offer.

"We've asked our attorneys to begin the process of setting those agreements in order so that the board would be able to consider those in writing and we're hoping to have those in the next week or two."

Last year, a broker listed Hope Creek for 19 million dollars.

County officials have said it's been losing around 2 million dollars a year ever since it opened in 2009, and that the only options are sell it or close it.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
