A new interim city administrator will start working later this month in Moline. Tuesday night Mayor Stephanie Acri will formally announce the appointment of Martin Vanags.
Acri says since Vanags was hired through a nationwide temporary agency for government jobs, GovHR, the process was different from a traditional hire - council members interviewed him in executive session.
"It's not the type of process where we take a vote - we already have a contract with GovHR. And so he's their employee, we just agree that he's well-qualified and will meet our needs."
She says he has more than 30 years experience in municipal administration, with expertise in community and economic development. The city will release more details Tuesday, and he'll start his new job on May 27th. His contract is for one year.
Vanags will take over from current Interim City Administrator J.D. Schulte who will go back to being Director of Public Works. He took the interim job last fall after City Administrator Lisa Kotter was forced to resign
