New Parks Director for Moline

Moline Park Board

Moline will soon have a new director of parks and recreation. The Moline Park Board has chosen Eric Griffith, who's currently the Recreation Supervisor for the city of Sioux City.

A formal vote on his hiring will be held Thursday, and he's expected to start his new job on March 30th.

Alison Fleming, Human Resources Manager for Moline, says the park board received over 60 applications. And it was looking for someone with a wide range of experience.

"This director is very hands-on - doing the work but also the big picture kind of work. So the budgeting, management, personnel, and working with both park board and city council are very important to the park board. So looking for that kind of experience as well."

In Sioux City, Griffith is in charge of adult and youth programming, special events, and their aquatics and recreational centers. And he has a strong background in recreation, athletics, special events, facilities management, budgeting, and personnel management.

He'll replace Lori Wilson who retired in January after working for 28 years for Moline, including four as parks and recreation director.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
