Moline joins Davenport P.D.'s National Ballistic Network

Moline police will now be able to use the Davenport P.D.'s National Integrated Ballistic Information Network. Eariler this month Moline's committee of the whole passed a resolution allowing personnel access to the national network.

Moline Detective Jon Leach says Davenport P.D. is the one who put the inital $400,000 forward.

"We have so many gun crimes in our area that Davenport has seen a lot of success for it," Leach said. "So we just wanted to jump on their coattails and just get everyone together all on the same page."

Major Jeff Bladel of the Davenport P.D. says the network allows the department to follow leads within hours instead of 6 to 8 months. NIBIN (NYE-bin) allows police personal to test shell casings. Bladel says the Rock Island P.D. has been utilizing the system too and he hopes more join the system.

"We are looking to expand beyond," Bladel said. "We have contact with both Moline and Illinois state police that covers a lot of area in Rock Island County. As well as Bettendorf police department and Scott County to get their personal trained as well as utilizing the technology."

Bladel says Moline and other local agencies should be able to fully join by the end of February and or the beginning of March.
