QC Judge Nominated for Ia. Supreme Court

A district judge from the Quad Cities is one of three nominees for the Iowa Supreme Court. On Thursday, the State Judicial Nominating Commission interviewed 12 applicants for a vacancy on the court, and selected three for the governor to consider.

The three are Joel Barrows of Bettendorf, and two attorneys, Matt McDermott from Des Moines, and Dana Oxley from Cedar Rapids. Barrows has served as a district court judge since 2012.

The governor has 30 days to choose one of them to replace Chief Justice Mark Cady who died recently.
Also applying for the supreme court vacancy was Muscatine County Attorney Alan Ostergren.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
