REAP Assembly Set for Maquoketa

Iowa DNR

The Iowa DNR wants to hear from the public. This month and next, it's holding REAP, or Resource Enchancement and Protection, assemblies throughout Iowa to identify possible local projects.

An assembly will be held on Tuesday night in Maquoketa.

REAP Coordinator Tammie Krausman says REAP is a state funding program that pays for things like outdoor recreation, land management, and city parks and trails.

"Every two years we hold 18 public meetings where we really want to hear from Iowans about issues that pertain to those types of topics: outdoor recreation, water quality, roadside vegetation... And so, we hold these to try to get some feedback from folks."

Krausman says the assemblies are important because they give people an opportunity to tell state officials how the money should be used.

REAP received $12 million dollars this year from gambling revenue, and each year, provides funding to every county in Iowa. Since 1989, REAP has awarded $360 million to 15,000 projects.

Tuesday's REAP assembly will be held at the Hurstville Interpretive Center in Maquoketa begninning at 6:30. One will also be held Wednesday night in Burlington, and another in Muscatine on December 4th.
