The Iowa State Auditor is going to look into the recent sale of a former school in Davenport. Wednesday, Rob Sand confirmed his office has been contacted about the Lincoln School and the board of education's decision to sell it for $30,000, even though there were several much higher offers.
Right now he can't say anything about the complaint.
"We obviously want people to be encouraged to report suspicions of wrongdoing. In fact, a lot of people have an obligation to do so. When that information comes into us we can't share anything about it, because we want to make sure that people know if they are blowing the whistle on something their identity is going to be entirely protected."
Sand says until he knows more about the sale he will only call this " a matter," instead of an audit or investigation.
And once the state audit is completed his office can only report and make recommendations, and not force any changes in the decision by the Davenport school board.
Earlier this month the board voted to sell Lincoln School for $30,000 to a local organization called Making A Better Community, which is affilated with the Third Missionary Baptist Church in Davenport.
