Bettendorf is studying the future of some of its recreation facilities. And Thursday a consultant that's been working with the city will present its recommendations at two public open houses.

Lindsey Peckinpaugh, from the Chicago firm of Perkins and Will, says they looked at Splash Landing, the Life Fitness Center, and the Community Center.

"After a protracted planning process where we looked at multiple sites and multiple program components, we have settled on one recommended site location. And we'll be presenting a site plan and conceptual plan."

The recommendation is to build a new recreation facility in Middle Park - it would include a updated and expanded Splash Landing aquatic park, and programs from the Life Fitness Center across the street, and the programs now held at the Community Center downtown.

The downtown center would be closed, and the Life Fitness Center would be sold.

Peckinpaugh emphasizes these are just recommendations, and input from city residents will be taken into account when a final report is made next month.

Public open houses will be held at the Waterfront Convention Center Thursday - from 1 to 3 pm and 6 to 8 pm.
