District To Choose New Judge

Iowa Courts

One of three local attorneys will soon become a judge in Iowa's Seventh District. A judicial commission has about two weeks to make a decision to fill a vacancy.

They nominated Steven Berger, who works for the Scott County Attorney's Office, Derek Jones, a public defender in Davenport, and Korie Shippee, from the Muscatine County Attorney's Office.

The vacancy was created in mid-July when the governer appointed Judge Mark Fowler to the District Court. The Seventh District includes Cedar, Clinton, Jackson, Muscatine, and Scott counties.

I'm currently a Senior at Augustana College, working on majors in Multimedia Journalism and Mass Communication and Communication Studies. In addition to interning at the station, I also work for the Augustana Observer, the college's official student newspaper, as a writer for the Arts and Entertainment section.
