Finalist for RI County Administrator

GovHR

A national search for a new Rock Island County administrator is nearly over. The county board may decide Wednesday night to hire James Snider from Freeport, Illinois.

Snider is currently the county administrator for Stephenson County, a job he's held for nearly two years.

Ken Maranda, chair of the Rock Island County board, says on Wednesday the board will go into closed session and talk with department heads and elected officials about their opinions about Snider. And then meet with Snider himself.

"He'll give us his best shot and we'll make a decision after we go into open session. So if we decide to vote or if we decide to go out again - we have that option. "

Maranda is pleased that the search, with consultant GovHR, went well. There were 38 applications from 12 states, and the list was eventually reduced to two - but one of the finalists dropped out to take another job.

Previous administrator Dave Ross served for more than 2 years, and resigned last September to take a similar job in Florida.

The Rock Island County board meets Wednesday evening at 5:30.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
