Washburn Out as Davenport Fire Chief

Four days after being placed on administrative leave, Lynn Washburn has lost her job as Davenport Fire Chief. Friday city administrator Corri Spiegel made the announcement in a letter to fire department employees and city officials.

No details were released on Monday when Washburn was placed on leave, and no details were provided Friday, just that, "Chief Washburn's tenure as the city of Davenport Fire Chief concluded Thursday July 27th."

Assistant Chief Jim Bickford will serve as interim chief - he's been with the department for 38 years.

Washburn came to Davenport in 2011 after 29 years with the Rockford Fire Department.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
