The local World Relief office is responding to questions from refugees now living in the Quad Cities.
Director Amy Rowell says the phone calls started when President Trump signed executive orders to ban refugees and immigrants. Rowell says the administration also cut in half the number of new refugees the US will accept this year. That means World Relief in Moline will help re-settle about half of the 225 people it expected.
It also means the faith-based nonprofit will have to cut staff. But Rowell doesn't know how many of her 15 employees will lose their jobs. She and her staff are very disappointed and sad about the new rules. They are asking for prayer for themselves and for refugees throughout the world.
In addition, the nonprofit has stopped accepting in-kind donations.
In recent years, people from Myanmar, or Burma, make up the vast majority of refugees who re-settled in the Quad Cities, with help from World Relief.
