Bettendorf Choosing New Alderman

The Bettendorf city council will have a lot of choices to fill a vacant seat. Tuesday was the deadline to file a resume with the city, and 16 were received.

One of them will replace alderman at-large Gary Mohr who resigned following his election to the Iowa House.

A city spokesman says a questionnaire will be sent to the applicants Wednesday and it must be returned by next Monday. Bettendorf aldermen will first rank the top ten, then narrow the list to five for interviews on February 20th.

The council will choose the new at-large alderman by the end of the month.

The 16 would-be aldermen are Joshua Wold, Rocky Vermillion, Judy Gackle, Steven Sorensen, Samuel Griffin, Lisa Brown, Amy Jones, John D'Antico, Troy Tumey, Camille Johnson, Richard Lynch, Mikhayla Schmaltz, Andrea Gillio, Kylah Rasche, Adam Holland, and Melinda Smith-Pace.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
