A retiree has joined four others in the race for Moline alderman at-large. Carol Triebel was the latest to announce her candidacy on Monday.
Triebel describes herself as an "outsider" candidate, and served briefly on the Moline City Council in 2015 to fill a vacant seat. Before that, she worked as a housing program officer for the City of Rock Island and retired in 2013.
Triebel says she wants Moline city government to be more transparent, which she believes means increasing online access to the city's finances.
"I think the citizens should just be able to go online and see the finances of the city. We individually have to be prudent with our finances, so I think it would be a nice balance to see the city being responsible with their tax dollars and the support they receive from the citizens."
Triebel is one of five candidates running for the at-large seat, which is currently held by mayoral candidate Stephanie Acri. A primary election will be held in February ahead of the municipal general election in April.
The other four candidates are Angie Normoyle, Sonia Berg, Gregory Swanson, and Edward Johnson.
