Transportation Plan for Moline Riverfront

City of Moline
Downtown Moline and 2 adjacent neighborhoods.

Now that several major projects are underway in downtown Moline, how can the city improve transportation between them, by car, bike, and on foot. Wednesday the Planning Commission and Project Management Team will discuss a proposed transportation plan for the riverfront.

City Planner, Jeff Anderson, says the goal is to connect the new I-74 bridge, new Amtrak station, and growing campus of Western Illinois University, for various types of transportation.
A key part of the plan involves the new bridge - how will it change traffic flow in downtown Moline, and what should the city do with the land now occupied by the old bridge once it's demolished.

Anderson says the riverfront transportation plan is nearly finished, and a public hearing will be held later this month. It also includes two adjacent neighborhoods - Floraciente which is just west of downtown, and Edgewater, to the east.

The meeting begins at 4 pm Wednesday, at the WIU campus.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
