Wondering what to do with an old armory, the city of Galesburg has turned to the public for help. Wednesday night it will hold an open house to get input on a possible renovation.
Tony Oligney-Estill, director of Parks and Recreation, says the National Guard moved out in 2006, and the city took ownership two years later, and it's been vacant ever since.
The armory has about 24,000 square feet, with a large, open drill hall taking up about half of the space. He says one alternative is to turn it into a conference and event center.
Oligney-Estill says one purpose of the open house is to to determine if there's support in Galesburg to spend several million dollars to renovate it. Or should the city lease or sell the armory ?
The open house runs from 5:30 until 7:30 pm, at the Armory, at 149 North Broad Street.
