The second phase of a major renovation of the Scott County courthouse has reached the halfway point, and should be finished by next summer. That was the progress report given this week to the board of supervisors.
Director of Facilities, Tammy Speidel, says the main goals of the 6 million dollar project are to make the courtrooms handicapped accessible, improve security, and make better use of the space.
Already completed is the renovation of a magistrate courtroom - because it was too small, people would crowd into the lobby of the building.
Work is also now underway to keep jail inmates separate from other people in the building.
Speidel says windows in the 60 year old building will be replaced to reduce energy costs, and all the work should be finished by next summer.
