Renters Ready to Move Into New Townhomes

Seven families will move into their new, two story apartments in Rock Island this week. Today, the housing authority held an open house for the new 3rd and 11th Townhomes.

Executive Director, Susan Anderson, says eight years ago, the city gave the authority two adjoining lots on the southwest corner of the intersection in the New Old Chicago neighborhood. Construction began about two years ago. And the townhomes are part of the authority's Homebuyer Incentive Program.
Market rate rent for the two-bedroom units is $750, and $1,050 for three bedrooms. But Anderson says residents will pay 30% of their income.

It cost about $1.3 million to build the 3rd and 11th Townhomes. Anderson says the Rock Island Housing Authority saved capital development funds for several years to help pay for the project.
