Quad Cities drivers may want to avoid Blackhawk Road for a couple of months. This week, a construction crew and flaggers will restrict traffic to one lane during the day.
Chad Pink, Field Engineer from the Illinois Department of Transportation, says Valley Construction will improve nearly one mile of the road from 13th to 24th Street. It has drainage problems, and on the north side, a steep bank needs to be stabilized.
And Pink says trees were cut down earlier this year, before migrating birds arrived and started building nests in the forest at Blackhawk State Historic Site.

Workers will remove trees this week, then bank stabilization, and pavement work later.
It's a $500,000 project which should be completed in early July.
