QC Chamber Lobbies in DC

A delegation of business and government leaders will spend the next two days in Washington DC, promoting projects in the Quad Cities.

Scott VanDeWoestyne, director of government affairs for the Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce, says meetings are scheduled with members of Congress from Illinois and Iowa, plus the departments of defense, transportation, commerce, and even treasury.

VanDeWoestyne says it's important for local leaders to make this trip each year, because "the squeaky wheel gets the grease."

Topics to be covered in Washington include funding for transportation projects, health care, and the Rock Island Arsenal.

The chamber of commerce delegation leaves early Thursday, and will return Friday night.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
