State Funding Cuts May Affect The Arc of the QC
Faced with the prospect of major cuts in state funding, the Arc of the Quad Cities is lobbying members of the Illinois General Assembly. Today it hosted Rock Island state senator Neil Anderson to learn about its Respite Program in Moline.
Director of Development, Sarah Wright, says each day the program serves 30 children and adults with disabilities, providing care and recreation so their families can work. But the state grant that accounts for 56 per cent of the budget will be eliminated July lst.
Wright says without the state grant, the Respite Program will be drastically cut, or closed, as will similar programs across Illinois.
The Arc has already talked with Milan state representative Pat Verschoore and will meet soon with representative Mike Smiddy from Hillsdale - the other legislators who represent the Illinois Quad Cities.
