Isle of Capri in Bettendorf will break ground soon on a new, land-based casino. Yesterday, the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission unanimously approved the company's development plans.
It's been nine months since Bettendorf aldermen approved the site plan to move the Isle of Capri casino off the Mississippi River. The company says it'll spend $55-60 million on the 82,000 square foot complex.
Brian Ohorilko, Administrator of the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission, says it's a significant investment.
In recent years, he says revenues at the riverboat casinos in the Iowa Quad Cities have decreased due to competition from video gambling machines in Illinois and Jumer's Hotel and Casino in Rock Island.
