Rauner Visits the Arsenal

Midway through a week-long tour of the state, Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner visited one of the major employers in the Quad Cities.

This afternoon, he received briefings from officials of the Rock Island Arsenal, and toured the factory that makes a variety of equipment - for the Army, National Guard and Reserves, and for other branches of the military.
And he wants to help the Arsenal work with the private sector to create jobs and boost the local and state economy.

Rauner started what he calls his Turnaround Tour on Monday, trying to sell his agenda to Illinois residents and local officials.

I'm asking them to endorse my agenda as the General Assembly prepares for some difficult votes.

The governor's turnaround agenda includes fewer regulations and reducing bureaucracy, freezing property taxes, and pension reform, to help reduce the state's huge budget deficit.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
