Smiddy Sponsors Min. Wage Bill

A state legislator from northwestern Illinois will play a key role in the General Assembly's minimum wage debate. In the state House, Representative Mike Smiddy from Hillsdale is one of two lead sponsors of the bill - it would raise wage from the current 8-25 per hour to 11 dollars in 2019.

He would prefer that Congress raise it, for the whole country.
Following its passage in the Illinois Senate, he thinks there is strong support in the House.

November referendum showed strong support.

The bill to raise the Illinois minimum wage will soon be assigned to a committee, and Smiddy hopes it will come to the floor for debate sometime next month.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
