Motorists in the Quad Cities are going to have to be patient for a while longer. Today the Illinois Department of Transportation announced the re-opening of the Centennial Bridge has been postponed again.
Originally the project was going to be completed during August, then unforeseen problems forced the work to last as long as October 10th - one week from today. Now though, the completion date will be sometime after that.
Region Two Engineer, Paul Loete, says the main steel beams have been replaced, which was a major part of the project.
As to how many days past October 10th, Loete says it could be two, or three, or more, depending on the weather and how quickly the work progresses.
The original contract valued the Centennial Bridge repairs at 3.8 million dollars.
Loete says repairs to River Drive in downtown Moline are still scheduled to be completed by mid-December.
