Premiering Bettendorf

The City of Bettendorf is asking residents for help with long-term planning. Tuesday, city staff will be on hand during an open house to discuss the initiative called, "Premiering Bettendorf."  The open house will focus on neighborhoods with potential for growth, such as the area from 53rd Street north to Interstate 80. Bettendorf officials want to know where residents would like streets and highways to be improved, and what kinds of amenities they want, such as parks and trails. Community Development Director, Bill Connors, says Bettendorf hasn't updated its long-term land use plan since 2000.
Connors says a lot has changed in Bettendorf over the past 14 years, and he hopes to update the city accordingly.
Plans for the downtown area will be the focus of a second meeting late next month. Connors says the main topic will be the I-74 bridge project and its effect on business.
After the public meetings, Connors says city staff will meet with focus groups to finalize the "Premiering Bettendorf" plan, and start looking for ways to pay for projects.  Tuesday's open house begins at 5 pm and will be held at the community center.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
