Rock River Rising

National Weather Service

The Rock River is rising, and will likely reach flood stage upstream from the Quad Cities on Thursday. The National Weather Service says the river has risen two feet at Joslin since Sunday, and could crest at two-tenths of a foot over flood stage on Thursday, then fall very slowly starting on Saturday.

At Moline, the Rock has risen about three-quarters of a foot since Sunday, and is 1.3 feet below flood stage. It's expected to rise another foot, to just below flood stage on Friday and Saturday, then begin to fall.

In the Quad Cities Wednesday, the Mississippi River is rising very slowly, and is now five feet below flood stage. The current forecast is for it to continue rising, and reach three feet below flood stage by next Tuesday (3/17).

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
