Flood Task Force Holds First Meeting

Following this year's record-setting and destructive flood, Davenport's Flood Task Force will hold its first meeting Tuesday. On Friday, Mayor Frank Klipsch announced the names of 22 members, including local residents, business owners, elected officials, developers, and other experts.

He wants the group to plan the future of the city's riverfront and possible flood protection measures. And the first meeting will focus on Davenport's current flood plan, and what is and is not protected.

Members of the task force include members of the city council, downtown business owners, the chamber of commerce, Army Corps of Engineers, and a hydrologist from the National Weather Service.

The first meeting begins at 4 pm Tuesday in the community room of the Davenport Police Department.
Future meetings include July 23rd and August 6th, and all meetings are open to the public.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
