Xstream Cleanup Needs Volunteers

This weekend, Xstream Cleanup needs volunteers to help the Quad Cities area recover from this year's flood.
Kurt Liske, from the Waste Commission of Scott County, says Xstream cleanups started 15 years ago as a grassroots solution to litter.

"People in the community recognized that they didn't like [the debris], it wasn't good for the environment and that it wasn't appealing for our community, and got together and put together this event which has now grown and evolved into X-Stream Cleanup as we know it today."

Liske says 150 volunteers are expected Saturday to help at eight different locations in the Quad Cities.

"These are areas where we reached out to our network of volunteers and municipal partners and said that we've got a pool of people that want to get dirty and clean up this debris. These are locations where people said there is a need, and we've got the man power, so let's make it happen."

Xstream organizes cleanups throughout the year. To register as a volunteer for Saturday's cleanup, visit www.xstreamcleanup.org.
