Flood Affects Riverdale Family with Offspring Named Windy & Storm
High water has affected a family of eagles at Arconic's Davenport Works. Don't worry, parents "Liberty" and "Justice" and their two eaglets are fine. But you can't view their nest online anymore.
Spokesman John Riches says early last week, one of the two cameras stopped working. Then the second one went offline, too. He thinks it's because the land below the nest is flooded and probably caused the loss of electricity to the cameras.
Around 2,000 people helped choose names for this year's eaglets. During last month's contest, "Windy" and "Storm" received the most votes, at about 40 percent.
A post on the Arconic EagleCam web page says the first egg showed up in the nest in on a Sunday afternoon in February. Riches commented, "Liberty and Justice coped well with the challenge of 50 mile-an-hour winds."
It'll take awhile before the flooding subsides at the base of the tree where the nest is located. So right now, it's impossible for Arconic to try and fix the problem with the webcams.
He expects the eaglets to fledge, or start trying to fly, in June. By then, they'll look a lot different, with darker feathers rather than soft, downy gray.
