Davenport Activates Flood Plan

With severe flooding expected in the coming weeks, Davenport has activated its flood plan.

The plan calls for South Concord between Utah and River Drive to be closed sometime Friday or Saturday, and there'll be periodic lane reductions and closures on River Drive. Beiderbecke Drive by Modern Woodmen Park will also be affected this weekend.

Credit Island will be closed beginning Friday, and the boat dock at Marquette Landing may be removed before the weekend. And the floodwall at Modern Woodmen Park will be installed soon.

The River’s Edge, Freight House and Farmer’s Market, and Union Station will remain open for business. And there should be no impact on the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Race on Saturday.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
