Bald Eagle Watches

Bald eagle watching begins this weekend along the Mississippi River.

The first "watch" of the new year will be held in Clinton Saturday - with programs at Clinton Community College, and eagle viewing across the river at Lock and Dam 13 in Fulton.

The Quad Cities will hold its annual Bald Eagle Days next weekend (1/11-13) - with the environmental fair at the QCCA Expo Center in Rock Island Friday through Sunday, and eagle view at various sites, including Sunset Park in Rock Island, Lock and Dam 15 between Davenport and Rock Island, and Lock and Dam 14 at LeClaire.

The Dubuque Bald Eagle Watch will be next, on January 19, with Bald Eagle Appreciation Days in Keokuk on January 19 and 20.

Each year, Muscatine combines eagle watching with music during the Eagles and Ivories Ragtime Weekend - this year on January 24 - with eagle watching on the riverfront and concerts around the city.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
