High Wind Watch In Effect Wednesday

Quad Cities National Weather Service

The Illinois State Police are worried about drivers safety because a high wind watch will be in effect tonight and Wednesday. The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities expects winds up to 60 miles per hour for areas along and north of I-80. Troopers are especially concerned because last month, high winds caused several crashes.

Senior Forecaster Andy Ervin says the two main dangers will be traffic accidents and falling tree branches.
One person died in one of the crashes on February 19th.

The watch starts at 1 am with winds from 30 to 45 miles per hour, then at 10 am tomorrow they'll increase to 60.

Ervin says people should try to avoid driving north and south, since the strongest winds will move west and northwest.

Be careful on roads, look out for trees

The high wind watch is set to end at 8 tomorrow night. Ervin also says there's a risk of severe storms that may include hail.
