Candidate for Iowa U.S. Senate Dies in Plane Crash

One of the candidates for U.S. Senate in Iowa has died. The Dubuque Telegraph Herald reports Doctor Doug Butzier, the Libertarian candidate, was killed in a plane crash last night near Dubuque.

Butzier was an emergency room doctor at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque for the past 17 years. The eastern Iowa native also served as a physician in the U.S. Army reserves for eight years.
 
He leaves behind a wife, two sons, and three stepchildren.
